History of the Library

The Computer Age

In July 1996, our first Internet computers arrived under Industry Canada’s Community Access Program and a new era in information technology had arrived at the Brockville Public Library. More recently, new print enhancement software and special keyboards have been installed on some Internet and word processing computers to assist patrons who are visually handicapped. In October 2006 we introduced free wireless Internet access for people who have laptop computers.  And in December 2006 the library management computer system was upgraded to an Internet-based one.  Customers can now review their accounts, and reserve and renew items online, using their home or office computers, or the library’s computers.
